KARACHI:

Sindh High Court (SHC) directed the police on Monday to produce in court the alleged Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) worker, Rehan Tahir, whom SSP Rao Anwar had declared an agent of the Indian intelligence agency, Raw, on May 21.

A division bench, headed by Justice Ahmed Ali M Sheikh, passed this direction on a petition filed by the suspect's wife, Najma Tahir. She had taken the Sindh home secretary, police IG, SSP Rao Anwar and others to court for keeping him under illegal detention and extracting a confession under duress.

The petitioner said that law enforcers had arrested him near Mukka Chowk in Azizabad on February 24. Later SSP Anwar said that they had arrested her husband on April 30. The police officer had claimed that Tahir was associated with the Indian spy agency, Raw.

Najma has requested the court to order a medical examination of the suspect to prove the torture he was subjected to. She has sought an inquiry into the confessional statement of Tahir regarding his association with Raw.
