Justice Syed Mansoor Ali Shah of Lahore High Court (LHC) overruled on Monday a registrar office’s objection to a petition seeking directions for the federal government to repatriate a former ambassador to the US, Husain Haqani, the main accused of the memogate scandal.
The court ordered that the petition be fixed before an appropriate bench for the preliminary hearing. The registrar’s office had earlier said the application was not maintainable. The petitioner, Iftikhar Hussain, had then challenged the objection in the court.
Hussain had filed the petition accusing Haqqani of treason. He said the former ambassador had brought bad name to the country. He said Haqqani had been allowed to leave the country although the commission, formed to investigate the memogate scandal, had declared him guilty. He requested the court to direct the government to bring him back and bring him to book.
