Electoral rigging: Court to take up plea against judicial commission

Our Correspondent May 17, 2015

LAHORE: Justice Ayesha A Malik of Lahore High Court on Monday fixed May 18 to hear petitions challenging the formation and operation of a judicial commission probing electoral rigging.

Azhar Butt had said the petitions should be decided before the commission announced its findings. He said the commission had been formed in violation of the Constitution. He said the ordinance was in violation of Article 225 of the Constitution. The lawyer said it appeared that the government had issued the ordinance under pressure from a sit-in last year by the PTI. He said that in light of Supreme Court’s judgements, matters related to an election could only be raised in election tribunals.
