Family feud: Sons of ex-minister, two others arrested for attacking LG candidate

HARIPUR: Four persons, including two sons of a former provincial minister were arrested for allegedly being involved in targeting a local government candidate, Javed Khan Jadoon, said the police on Saturday.

On the complaint of Javed Khan, Sera-e-Saleh police registered cases against Atif Khan, a Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf candidate for district council from Shah Maqsood UC and his brother Asif Khan, sons of former provincial minister late Munsif Khan Jadoon; their cousins Umair Khan, Uzair Khan and Zahid Khan, sons of Chanzeb Khan Jadoon; Sarmad Khan and Saad Khan,  Junaid, Nazakat and five unidentified assailants under different sections of the Pakistan Penal Code.

The police have arrested Atif Khan, his brother Asif Khan, Nazakat and Junaid Khan while other nominated accused are still at large. The four detained men were produced before the judge of Abbottabad Anti-Terrorism Court and were then handed over to the police for a five-day physical remand.

The families of Javed Khan Jadoon and Munsif Khan Jadoon have been engaged in an old feud to which both the sides have lost dozens of people, including Munsif Khan Jadoon who was shot dead at a public meeting he was addressing near Shah Maqsood in 1997.

Attack on Javed Khan

On Friday evening, Javed Khan Jadoon, was on his way back home after addressing a corner meeting in Chiti Dhaki village when his motorcade was attacked on Toru Dhok bridge. Armed men opened fire with AK-47 rifles and hurled hand grenades, killing his five body guards and a driver on the spot, while Javed and his two other group members sustained injuries. Hospital and police sources have stated their condition to be out of danger.
