Former Pakistani television actress Tasmina Ahmed-Sheikh is now a British MP, after her victory over two constituencies in Scotland in the 2015 UK elections.

According to The Courier, a UK-based newspaper, the 44 year-old actress-turned-politician, who contested the election on the Scottish National Party’s (SNP) ticket, snatched Ochil and South Perthshire constituencies from the Labour party with a clear majority against her opponents.

During her brief stint in the entertainment industry, Tasmina made several appearances including the well-received drama serials Aansoo and Des Pardes. After bidding adieu to her acting career, Tasmina headed a women’s rights group in Scotland and became actively involved in British politics. She is also a regular columnist for Scotland’s daily newspaper, The National.

Shortly after the election results were announced, fans and well-wishers took to Twitter to congratulate the actress-turned-politician.

Delighted with the election results, the SNP’s rising star thanked her supporters on the micro blogging site, Twitter.  “I’m honoured and [feel] privileged to be elected to represent the people of Ochil and South Perthshire. I look forward to working for you,” she said in her post.
