Eight tribesmen killed, several injured in North Waziristan over land dispute

Fighting prompts several families to move to Afghanistan for safety

BANNU: At least eight tribesmen lost their lives and several others were injured on Friday when two rival tribal groups clashed with each other in Lora Mandai area of Dattakhel, North Waziristan Agency (NWA).

A local of the area said that two groups of Madakhel tribe in Lora Mandai area of Tehsil Dattakhel, have had a conflict over a piece of land. The area is located near the Pakistan-Afghanistan border.

He said that on Friday both groups started firing on each other with heavy and light weapons. As a result, the source said eight men were killed and several others were injured.

The two groups were continuing to exchange fire till the filing of this report.

The residents of the area said that the exchange of fire caused panic among residents and surrounding areas prompting several families to move to Afghanistan.
