Blood Donation Society (BDS) of the Government College University (GCU) on Friday arranged an awareness walk to mark the International Thalassemia Day.
Vice Chancellor Muhammad Khaleequr Rahman led the walk that was attended by journalist Sohail Warriach, Registrar Muhammad Akhtar Farrukh, Intermediate Studies Director Saqib Iqbal, BDS Adviser Babar Naseem Aasi and a large number of faculty members and students.
The students carried banners and placards with messages spreading awareness about thalassemia and its treatment.
Vice Chancellor Rahman called upon students to go door-to-door in their neighborhoods and educate people about thalassemia. He said the awareness was needed to defeat thalassemia.
“Prevention is better than cure. Every member of society must be screened [for thalassemia] through a simple blood test before marriage,” the vice chancellor said.
