RAWALPINDI:

The health department has upgraded five basic health units (BHUs) in Rawalpindi district to provide round-the-clock services.

According to health officials, 96 BHUs are currently functioning across the district, five of which have been upgraded under the Integrated Reproductive Maternal Newborn Child Health (IRMNCH) programme.

MHCN In-charge Dr Javed Chaudhry told The Express Tribune that the five BHUs in different peripheries were inaugurated on May 1 and May 2 by Member Provincial Assembly Raja Muhammad Ali and Rawalpindi DHO Dr Muhammad Rafique.

“So far, we have inaugurated five BHUs and the rest will be upgraded after complete allocation of human resource and required facilities in these BHUs”, Rafique said.

These include the BHUs of Subah Shah in Kelar Syedan, Chak Beli Khan, Chakri and Lub Thuthoo in Tehsil Taxila.

The official said that renovation work worth Rs300,000 was being carried out in each BHU and no additional or special funds had been allocated for the activity.

“The upgradation includes allotment of two additional lady health workers, two attendants, and one security guard in each BHU,” he said.

The health official said interviews for new hiring were ongoing and soon they will be inducted into the upgraded facilities.
