Economic corridor route: Quetta shuts down on strike call

Our Correspondent May 17, 2015

QUETTA: A shutter-down strike was observed in parts of Quetta on Wednesday to protest against the alleged change of the route of the Gwadar-Kashgar economic corridor. The strike will be followed by protest demonstrations on Thursday. Strike was called by the Awami National Party, Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl, Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Nazriati, Hazara Democratic Party, BMM and trade bodies. Shops, markets, trading centres and restaurants remained closed for the day. Traffic was thin on the roads and so was the attendance in offices and schools. ANP provincial president Asghar Khan Achakzai told a press conference at Quetta Press Club that there will be All Party Conference on May 16 in Quetta.
