LAHORE: The Punjab University Academic Staff Association expressed solidarity with PU Law College Principal Shazia Qureshi on Wednesday in the wake of the Lahore High Court judgment regarding her appointment. The association expressed its concerns over the LHC verdict during a meeting of the PUASA’s Executive Body. Various issues regarding teachers’ welfare were discussed at the meeting. Those present also mulled over the wave of unrest among teachers following the LHC’s verdict which could affect the appointment and promotions of nearly 800 teachers of the university. Justice Syed Mansoor Ali Shah of the LHC had set aside the appointment of Qureshi as a professor while giving a ruling in the case of PU senate elections.  Those present on the occasion were also informed by the association that the university’s lawyers had presented records before the court to show that over 800 teachers had been posted in a similar manner. The Punjab University Academic Staff Association said several retired and serving teachers had expressed their concerns and were worried about their appointments in the wake of the verdict. Punjab University Academic Staff Association president Hassan Mobeen Alam chaired the meeting.  Secretary Mahboob Hussain, vice president Abid Chaudhry and joint secretary Farhan Chaudhry also attended the meeting.
