BAHAWALPUR: Two constables and a woman were injured in a shootout with a gang of robbers on Wednesday.

A police spokesperson said a team had raided a house near Chowk Mahi in Rahim Yar Khan on a tip-off. He said when the police team approached the house, the inmates shot at them and threw a grenade at them.

The spokesperson said Muhammad Arshad and Muhammad Boota were injured and taken to Shaikh Zayed Hospital in Rahim Yar Khan.

The spokesperson said the gang was involved in supplying weapons to Chotu Mazari’s gang and had killed constable Shafqat.

He said the men were wanted in over 20 cases. The spokesperson said an operation against them was underway.

The spokesperson said Khan Muhammad, Jaan Muhammad, Laal Bakhsh, Saleem, Behram and Waryam were holed up in a bunker and were shooting at police teams at random intervals.

He said a woman who was washing her clothes in a house nearby was injured when police returned fire. She, too, was taken to a hospital where doctors later said her condition was stable.
