“Saad Rafique was willing to go for a reelection but the PML-N believes accepting the decision could set a dangerous precedent,” said Ahsan Iqbal while addressing a press conference in Islamabad. “We will challenge the tribunal’s decision in the Supreme Court.”
An election tribunal on Monday had ruled in favour of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), announcing re-polling in the coveted NA-125, Lahore Cantt constituency.
Iqbal added that holding re-elections on the basis of irregularities could set aside the entire election.

“The entire election could be declared void if results from two to four bags disappear,” said the planning minister.
Earlier, Iqbal asked why Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chairman Imran Khan had staged a 126-day long sit-in in the capital if he trusted the election tribunals.
He said Imran was responsible for creating uncertainty and unrest in the country, as he did not want the PML-N to pursue its agenda of economic revival in the country.

The minister said that unlike PTI, the PML-N secured all its seats in the by-elections, whereas Imran’s party also got a defeat in cantonment elections, which he termed as “mini elections.”
PML-N leader Danyal Aziz also spoke on the occasion, saying that the election tribunal’s verdict does not state that the election in NA-125 was according to a “collusion or conspiracy” of the election officers, including district returning officers, returning officers and presiding officers.
