10 wild and outrageous dress-asters at the Met Gala 2015

Celebrities donned questionable and shocking designs which were a nightmare to look at

KARACHI: Halloween came early it seemed as celebrities donned questionable and shocking designs at this year's Met Gala, the theme for which was 'China: Through the looking glass'.

Almost all of our favourite and usually well-dressed celebrities were a nightmare to look at as they arrived at the annual fundraising event for the benefit of the Metropolitan Museum of Art's Costume Institute in New York. It was train wreck after train wreck with no salvaging.

The attendees made us shake our heads from right to left and left us in pain as The Rocky Horror Picture Show unraveled. If you don’t believe us, here's a list of the 10 worst dressed celebrities (trust us, deciding who to put on the list was no easy task given the large pool):

1. J-Lo:

JLo, among others, took the theme all too seriously. Her outrageous outfit was less about the red dragon and more about her ass-et. The hair nor the make-up did this Latina beauty any justice, everything was a major miss.

2. Rihanna:

Despite signing on as the first black spokesperson for Dior, Rihanna opted for a Guo Pei number which seemed to be heavily inspired from Disney's Beauty and the Beast. Instead of drawing inspiration from Belle, this pop singer looked like her ugly stepsister at the ball. The necklace and headgear just added to the monstrosity of her mile-long yellow train. Her Louboutins were the only saving grace.

3. Sarah Jessica Parker:

SJP’s hair was on fire… literally. The star went for a bold 'fire flaming' headgear with long tussles which only overpowered her face. The dress was 'meh' and the accessory was entirely unnecessary.

4. Selena Gomez:

Selena is usually one to stun on the red carpet, however, this was not one of those times for the Come and Get it singer. The dress had so much potential but unfortunately the headdress and the tussles failed to impress, and the singer looked like she was donning a child bride look.

5. Lady Gaga:

No surprise here, Lady Gaga is almost always seen on the worst dressed list and this occasion was no different. The singer wore an oversized Chinese emperor-style dress adorned with feathers and a stranger feather-like tiara. It was clear that Gaga was going for the empress of the underworld look.

6. Alicia Keys:

We’re not exactly sure what look Alicia was going for; mixing a tulle tiered skirt with a patterned navy crop top and matching blazer seemed like she decided to mix feminine and bold, which works if done the right way, however, not in this case. Her look was all wrong, including her severe dark eye shadow.

7. Beyonce:

Queen Bee always hits the right notes, even on the red carpet. But she disappointed at the Met Gala. Following JLo's revealing dress-aster, Beyonce left very little to imagination in her sheer racy dress. Her shoes and hair just made the entire outfit worse. Not only was the dress a little too revealing but it completely misconstrued the theme.

8. Solange Knowles:

Solange was not far behind from her sister on the train wreck as she wore a design that barely showed her face. We're trying to figure what it is but failing miserably, as is this dress.

9. Katy Perry:

The Hot n Cold singer missed the mark with this dress. The pixie cut, the gloves and most importantly the graffiti on the dress did not cut it. We think Katy forgot that this was the Met Gala not the comic con. Graffiti is best left on the walls, Katy, not clothes.

10. Anne Hathaway:

Resembling a Jedi knight, Anne Hathaway was an utter disappointment at the event. The metallic hood looked like a costume from the Star Wars franchise, not something you would wear at the Metropolitan Museum of Art. But we have to hand it to Anne, she did look graceful even though the dress was not red carpet worthy.
