Unchecked practice: Family protests against doctor, allege negligence

The protesters gathered at the clinic and smashed windows and damaged furniture

Scores of residents of D-Type Colony on Monday staged a protest demonstration against doctors of a private hospital, accusing them of negligence which they said had resulted in the death of woman during surgery.


The protesters gathered at the clinic and smashed windows and damaged furniture.

The protesters also blocked the D-Type Colony road for traffic. They placed the woman’s body on the road and urged police to arrest doctors responsible for her death.

Athar Ali, one of the protesters, told The Express Tribune that Rubina Bibi, wife of Javaid, a resident of Sharif Chowk in D-Type Colony, had reported abdominal pain when she was brought to Aslam Abdali’s clinic. He said the doctor advised surgery. He said the doctor operated on the woman. He said she died in surgery.

He said after operating on her, the doctor fled from the clinic.

On being informed, a team from D-Type Colony police station visited the scene and assured them protesters and and pacified the protestors by assuring them that the action would be taken against the responsible and he would be taken to task in accordance with law.  On receiving this assurance, the demonstrators called off their protest and dispersed from the scene.

Talking to newsmen, the D-Type Colony SHO said the doctor had been arrested in a raid. He said a case had been registered against him on the family’s complaint. He said a team had been formed to investigate the case.
