The English county Blast T20 event begins on May 15 while the PCB — still undecided on the dates — is planning to start the Super Eight T20 from May 11 at Faisalabad’s Iqbal Stadium.
Afridi signed with Northamptonshire last January and, as per the contract, will feature in six games for the county.
The all-rounder also led Karachi Dolphins in the National T20 tournament that took place in September last year. Afridi was also expected to spearhead the Dolphins’ campaign in seeking the sole Pakistan berth for the Champions League that would be sealed by the winner of the Super Eights.
The premier national T20 tournament has often been marred by last-minute scheduling changes and shifts in venues in recent years and once again the Super Eights event is set to suffer with the absence of the Pakistan captain in the shortest format.
