SUKKUR: Leader of the Opposition in the National Assembly Khurshid Shah on Sunday condemned the statements made by Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) chief Altaf Hussain against the army, saying that such tirade against state institutions is not acceptable.

Addressing the media in Sukkur on Saturday, Shah expressed concerns over MQM supremo’s live telecast.  Opposing resolutions against the MQM chief in provincial legislatures, the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) stalwart said that the move sets a bad precedent.

“If we start talking about our armed forces, it will only benefit our enemy. Our enemies want to see turmoil in the country,” the PPP leader said.

In his speech on Friday, the mercurial MQM leader criticised the military and said the party had always been discriminated against. The controversial speech drew sharp reaction from all quarters including the military.

In a series of tweets after the address, the military’s spokesperson lashed out at the MQM chief's expletive-laden verbal outburst.
