Corporal punishment: First grader brutally beaten by teacher

Child’s father demands action against the educator.

MARDAN: A student of Grade 1 was harshly beaten reportedly by his schoolteacher at a government primary school in Mir Akbar village. 

Muhammad Ali Shah, father of Imad Ali, told journalists at Mardan Press Club on Saturday that the teacher, Ibadullah, slapped his son when he found him quarrelling with his classmate. The teacher then took a stick and started hitting Imad on his back.

“Ibadullah continued to beat my son till he was about to fall unconscious,” the father claimed. “Upon returning home, Imad told his mother about his backache and when she took his shirt off she saw the bruises on his skin.”

Shah said the government should take notice of the teacher as children make mistakes but should be dealt with politely, not such in a barbaric manner.

“I want justice for my son but so far no one from the relevant authorities has taken action to take the teacher to task.”

“My son does not want to go to school again,” said Shah, adding such punishments have set fear in young minds, hence the government should consider relevant laws to discipline such teachers.
