At least five Pakistanis were killed when a fire erupted at a housing unit in Riyadh, Saudi newspaper Al Riyadh reported.

“Asian workers were killed and another injured in a fire that broke out in their residence in Riyadh on Friday morning,” the media report said quoting Civil Defense sources the newspaper reported.

However, it did not mention the nationality of the workers.

Local media reports added the workers were Pakistani and a short circuit was believed to be the reason behind the eruption of fire.

Saudi Red Crescent’s Abdullah Al-Meraibed said the five individuals died of smoke inhalation, according to Arab News.

The injured were taken to the National Guard Hospital in Riyadh.

Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif expressed deep sorrow over the incident and issued directives to the Pakistani embassy in Saudi Arabia to shift the bodies as soon as possible.

Samiullah Khan | 9 years ago | Reply @Israr: This is very true, unfortunately we as a Pakistani don't get respect any where in the world if such, I wonder one day they will disown us if such happens in the future. I wish our country stables and all labors and expats that are working outside for saudi's etc etc (who utterly disrespects them) will come back home and serve this country as much as they wish. May Allah give patience to the family of the victims.
bash gul | 9 years ago | Reply Do the people back in Pakistan know in what standard housing they live in? They are cramped in bunkers, and their camps are mostly on the outskirts of the city. If it was a residence, then why were there no emergency exits? Who cares for the labours in Saudi. The worst living conditions are those of the maintenance company, mostly janitors and cleaners.
