FAISALABAD:

Scores of residents of Chak 100-JB staged a protest demonstration on Friday against the Nishatabad SHO for implicating a man in a false case and demanding bribes.

The protesters gathered outside the office of the RPO and staged a sit-in for several hours. They chanted slogans against the Nishatabad SHO and urged the RPO to take notice of his actions.

Talking to newsmen, Hamid Waince, one of the protesters, told newsmen the Nishatabad SHO, an ASI and some other policemen had picked up Shakeel Anwar from Chak 100-JB without any justification and had demanded Rs10,000 for his release. He said when Shakeel refused, the SHO registered a robbery case against him. The protesters staged a sit-in on University Road and blocked it for traffic for several hours.

On being informed, SP Altaf Gondal reached the scene and pacified the protesters by assuring them that their claim would be investigated.

On this assurance, the protesters dispersed from the scene.
