Unsuspecting Passers-By: Father, son die in grenade explosion

MARDAN: A father and son were killed when a grenade exploded near a police check post on Friday in Mardan. According to a police official, unidentified militants had planted a grenade near a check post in Mangah area in the outskirts of the district to target policemen who patrol the nearby fields. However, civilians fell victim to it. He said Karim Gul, a schoolteacher, and his son Zohaib were heading to their fields when Zohaib stumbled upon the grenade and picked it up. The explosive went off in his hand, killing him and his father. Upon hearing the blast, policemen nearby rushed to the site and shifted the bodies to a rural health centre.
