The Punjab government has directed authorities concerned to complete the installation of 314 water filtration plants in four districts, including Lahore, by July 30.

The federal government had earlier issued Rs830 million for the project under which water filtration plants are being installed across the province.

The filtration plants are being set up in Lahore, Okara, Kasur and Bahawalpur districts.

Of the 314, 215 filtration plants are being set up in Lahore. The installation of only twenty-two of these have been completed so far.

Under the provincial government’s agreement with the contractors who are setting up these plants in the four districts, the latter will run them for three years after their installation.

Afterwards, the Water and Sanitation Agencies (Wasa) of the respective municipal administrations will get the responsibility of running them.
