All Pakistan Professors and Lecturers Association (APPLA) has condemned the killing of Karachi University (KU) assistant professor Waheedur Rehman.

“Killing of professors, intellectuals and men of letters is very unfortunate,” said a press release.

It quoted APPLA President Dr Zahid Ahmed Sheikh as saying: “No teacher is safe in Karachi. Another KU professor, Dr Shakeel Auj, was gunned down a few months ago.”

“The APPLA reiterates its call on the authorities to secure the builders of nation. It is not the killing of an individual; this is an attack on the teaching community.”

Sheikh urged the authorities to investigate the crime and bring the perpetrators to justice. The association has also passed a resolution condemning the murder and expressing condolences with the bereaved family.
