In the right direction: Art competition kicks off in Topi

Around 200 students from across the country will participate.

SWABI: Students will compete for the blue ribbon at a three-day art competition which will kick off at Ghulam Ishaq Khan Institute of Science and Technology in Topi, Swabi on Friday (today).

The event has been organised by Naqsh Arts Society (NAS), a club at the institute which aims to promote the visual and performing arts.

A large number of students from various universities across the country will display their work at an exhibition and a panel of judges will assess its merits.

Speaking to The Express Tribune, one of the organisers said NAS has been organising this competition for over a decade.

“This year, at least 200 students from across the country will participate,” he added.

For the love of art

According to Adeel Durrani, a NAS member, the competition provides a platform for emerging artists of the country.

“Through this competition, they will get the opportunity to interact and exchange views on art,” he said. “Moreover, such events provide budding artists with the opportunity to see the work of other artists.”

Durrani added the exhibition seeks to inspire and motivate young artists to work with determination to hone their skills and showcase their talent. A large number of NAS members said such events provide healthy competition to artists and help renew their enthusiasm for their work. Moreover, they provide an opportunity to learn new techniques.

According to the members, competent judges have been selected to assess the artworks.

They added the competition has provided a platform for a diverse menu of artists to showcase their talent. However, this year judges will expect more from participants.

“Those participants who will produce high-quality work will be awarded certificates,” he added.
