The All Pakistan NADRA Employee's Union (APNEU) has once again gone on strike in Sindh and has threatened the complete shutdown of all the offices throughout Sindh until their demands of local representation in issue-resolving committees are met.
According to the union's general secretary, Salman Zuberi, a central committee and four provincial committees were formed to address their issues in March after they had threatened a train march towards Islamabad. "Unfortunately, Sindh's committee is devoid of local representation," he said.
"The provincial committee has eight members," said Zuberi. "The director heads the committee; two deputy directors are under the head, along with five other officials." Zuberi added that those five officials should be local. "Employees have been included in the committee who have just been transferred from other provinces and are completely unaware of the issues we have," he stated, adding that lower-level employees should be included in the committee so that they can voice their issues properly. According to Zuberi, the protests are being held simultaneously in Karachi, Hyderabad, Mirpurkhas, Thatta, Badin and Makli.
Sindh director-general of NADRA Mahmood Iqbal said the representation in the committee is very much local.
