LAHORE: A division bench of the Lahore High Court (LHC), comprising Justice Ayesha A Malik and Justice Faisal Zaman, has forwarded the case of disqualification of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif to the LHC chief justice (CJ) and recommended constitution of a larger bench to hear the constitutional petition. Through Barrister Javed Iqbal Jafri, petitioner Ali Imran had pleaded in 1991 that Sharif did not meet the requirements of Articles 62 and 63 of the constitution and sought his disqualification as the then premier. The petition has been pending for 24 years because of unavailability of the required number of judges. According to the law, the bench should have five to seven judges in cases that involve high-profile individuals like a prime minister.
