Promoting research: KMU launches health profession education journal

First journal in the country in this field to provide online article submission.

PESHAWAR: The Khyber Medical University (KMU), Peshawar has launched its first research journal in the field of health profession education, titled ‘Advances in Health Professions Education’. It is the official journal of KMU and will be published on a quarterly basis from KMU Institute of Health Profession Education and Research, Peshawar.

While speaking as the chief guest at the inaugural ceremony on Monday, Higher Education Department Secretary Mohammad Ali Shahzada said the importance of health profession education as a global subject was increasing.

Also present on the occasion, KMU Vice Chancellor Professor Dr Muhammad Hafizullah said many eminent education scholars have pointed out the challenges that are being faced by health education professionals. He added these challenges range from curriculum design and faculty development to latest issues such as those of internationalisation or globalisation of health professional education and social accountability of educational institutes.

The journal is the first Pakistani health profession education publication to provide the option of online article submission and will have a peer review system. The journal will only be distributed among the faculty members of all medical and dental colleges and tertiary referral centres, main libraries and medical universities throughout Pakistan and abroad.

The rules state no part of the publication should be reproduced or stored in a retrieval system or transmitted in any form or by any means without the permission of the publisher. Annual subscription of the journal has been fixed at Rs4,000 in Pakistan and US$120 for overseas.
