Tragic: Bride’s sister dies in jubilation firing accident

FAISALABAD:

An older sister of the bride was killed when a stray bullet hit her during jubilation firing by the groom’s family in Mansoorabad area on Sunday. The Mansoorabad SHO told The Express Tribune that Riaz Ahmad, a resident of Mohallah Hajwairi Park, had arranged his daughter Sughra Bibi’s marriage for Sunday.

He said when the groom’s family arrived at the venue, they resorted to jubilation firing. He said Ishrat Bibi, the bride’s elder sister, was hit. He said she was rushed to a hospital where she died.

Akram Ali, a relative, told The Express Tribune that some elders had asked the groom’s family to stop firing but they paid no heed.

“The shooters were competing with another when Muhammad Ramazan shot Ishrat Bibi,” he said.

He said Bibi was mother of three and was pregnant. The Mansoorabad SHO said a case had been registered against Muhammad Ramazan on the complaint of Shahbaz Ahmad, Bibi’s brother. He said police were looking for him.
