ECP public relations officer Sohail Ahmed refused to provide definite information on the number of candidates who will be elected unopposed.
Talking to The Express Tribune, an Election Commission of Pakistan official said around 104,000 candidates, including 10,000 from Peshawar, have submitted nomination papers from across the province. With no competition in sight, around 13 candidates are in a position to secure their seats before May 30, the official added.
Meanwhile, ECP public relations officer Sohail Ahmed refused to provide definite information on the number of candidates who will be elected unopposed.
“Scrutiny is complete but it will take another day or two to finalise the number of disqualified and rejected applicants,” he said, adding the acceptance and rejection of papers will begin from Sunday (today) and will continue until April 28. He said appeals will be heard between April 29 and May 4 while the last day to withdraw papers is May 5. Ahmed said symbols will also be allotted on May 5 and the final list will be up on May 6.
Elected unopposed
One minority, two women and eight general candidates have been elected unopposed in Shaheen Town union council on Saturday. The general category candidates are Arbab Ziaullah, Shah Khalid, Jawad, Sohail, Atta Muhammad, Irshad; Faridullah and Younas, and Amanat Masih is the minority candidate who remained unopposed. The population of the area is 9,040 people, with only 2,174 registered with the ECP.
Earlier, ten candidates were elected unopposed to council seats in Shamshadeen village in Hangu.
