Make more provinces in the country, demands Altaf

MQM chief felicitates workers on their strong support

KARACHI: Muttahida Quami Movement (MQM) chief Altaf Hussain called for more provinces in the country while addressing party workers early on Saturday.

The party chief congratulated the workers on their strong support in the NA-246 by-polls, especially thanking the elderly and women.

In his telephonic address, Altaf said there was a need for more provinces in the country, especially areas dominated by the Hazara and Siraiki speaking people. He also mentioned Hyderabad, Sukkur, South Waziristan, and Gilgit-Baltistan, demanding that they be made separate provinces.

Having defeated Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) and Jamaat-i-Islami (JI) in Thursday's hotly contested by-polls, Altaf called on them to join forces with the MQM for working towards a brighter future of the country.

Napier Mole | 9 years ago | Reply While the idea of a separate province for Karachi may prove attractive to many, a better option is to ask for, stick to and struggle for the non-confrontational demand of a metrpolitan government for Karachi and the other urban areas of Sindh while remaining within the geographical boundries of Sindh. Assure the Sindhis that such governments are a natural administrative need and hence should not be perceived as any zero sum game. If it is Karachi and Hyderabad's turn to have met govetnments today, tomorrow it will be Sukkur and Larkana's as they reach the threshold required to have met. governments. Let mqm come up with a detailed configuration of these met. governments and a roadmap for the same. In the absence of a concrete and achievable agenda, the benefits of Karachiites faith in the party won't be achieved.
