ISLAMABAD: Pakistan has vowed not to remain a bystander if any attempt is made to destabilise Saudi Arabia, warning that any aggression against the Kingdom’s territorial integrity would evoke a strong response from the country.

The official statement was issued by the Foreign Office on Friday after talks were held between Pakistan’s Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and Saudi King Salman bin Abdulaziz in Riydah.

The prime minister travelled to the kingdom on Thursday with a high-powered delegation comprising army chief General Raheel Sharif and other senior officials as part of the damage control exercise following the parliamentary resolution that caused an unusual hiccup in the relationship with the Gulf states, including Saudi Arabia.

In a detailed statement, the Foreign Office said Pakistan expressed to the Saudi leadership its deep concern at the escalating threats to regional peace and stability in the Middle East and highlighted the need to ensure that the region is shielded from terrorist groups and other non-state actors.

“It was underscored that the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia was a policy imperative for Pakistan. Pakistan cannot remain a bystander if any attempt is made to destabilise the Kingdom. Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif reiterated that any aggression against the Saudi Arabia’s territorial integrity will evoke a strong response from Pakistan,” the statement added.

Pakistan expressed its willingness to play a positive role in promoting a peaceful resolution of the ongoing political crisis in Yemen and render its support for implementation of UN Resolution 2216.

Naeem Khan | 8 years ago | Reply What is this hype about violating Saudi Arabia's territorial integrity. No one is about to attack the holy sites specially by the Houthis who themselves are Moslems. Stop this non-sense, no body is believing this kind statements , you guys look stupid doing it. Saudis need mercenaries to fight their dirty war in Yemen and they were banking on Nawaz Sharif to deliver because NS is indebted to them for what ever reason. Nawaz Sharif knows well that majority of Pakistanis don't support this Saudi aggression in Yemen and don't want to see their young ones coming in body bags. Let the Saudis send their own to die in Yemen and they should respect our democratic way of decision making in the Parliament. Keep Pakistan out of this sectarian war.
KK Kool | 8 years ago | Reply Be ready Pakistanis and Pakistan armed forces; soon it's going to be our war. International forces can't afford a Muslim nuclear state. They did not let any but Pakistan dared to enter into nuclear club. These forces are trying to make example of Pakistan by pulling its legs on one reason or the other but Pakistan has survived. This Arab war is another of the kind. No matter what but soon Pakistan forces will be meddling in Arab mess. Had our politicians not bagged in past today we would have a ground beneath our feet to stand tall and out of this Arab mess. We must have strict pre-conditions to enter into this mess. The first and foremost is to get past loans waived off because after entering this war things would be worse off.
