ATC issues execution orders after FIA committee concluded that Hussain was not juvenile when convicted of murder

KARACHI: For the third time now, an anti terror court in Karachi issued death warrants on Friday for murder convict Shafqat Hussain who is now to be hanged on May 6, Express News reported.

Shafqat was arrested and sentenced to death in 2004 for the alleged kidnapping and killing of a seven-year-old boy from an apartment building in Karachi where he was working as a guard.

According to his lawyers, Shafqat was aged 14 when he had allegedly murdered a child in 2001. He had been sentenced to death by an anti-terrorism court in 2004. President, Asif Ali Zardari, had also rejected his mercy petition in 2012.

A formal letter was also written by the interior ministry which asserted the 'underage' convict's execution to be halted for 30 days. A committee led by the Federal Investigative Agency (FIA) recently concluded that Hussain was not juvenile at the time of conviction.

ATC-3 Judge Saleem Raza Baloch issued fresh death warrants today (Friday) and that the murder convict will be hanged on May 6 in Karachi Central Jail at 5:30am.

So far, it has not been said whether this will be challenged.

They have wrongly played emotional game with nation, family of victim and worse family of Shafaqat Hussain by telling them that he will be saved
