Hajj scam: AG takes notice of financial irregularities

Auditor General forms committee to audit accounts related to Hajj management.

ISLAMABAD: The Auditor General (AG) of Pakistan took notice of financial irregularities in Hajj management on Wednesday.

According to state television, the Auditor General has formed a committee to audit accounts related to Hajj management.

The Supreme Court of Pakistan is already hearing a case regarding the Hajj scam. Religious Affairs Minister Hamid Saeed Kazmi has admitted to corruption in the Hajj operation this year, in a statement to the court.

A Saudi prince had previously written a letter claiming that Pakistani government officials had refused his offer of a cheaper place of accommodation, opting instead for a more expensive residential area. The Chief Justice had taken suo moto notice of the case and the Foreign Office was asked to file its report on the subject.

Syed Ijaz | 13 years ago | Reply It is being said that a VVIP and his son are involved in the posting of DG Haj and award of contracts for accomodation of our unfortunate Hajis. What a shame and embarrassment. This is what happens when such men get positions of honor which they don't deserve.
