Pakistan military claims killing 47 Taliban insurgents

Militant hideouts also destroyed in airstrikes, according to ISPR

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan's military Thursday claimed to have killed at least 47 Taliban fighters in two days of airstrikes in the restive northwest as part of anti-insurgent offensives that began last year.

Hideouts of terrorists were also destroyed in the air strikes, conducted as part of the ongoing military operation in the tribal region.

"In precise aerial strikes in Tirah, Khyber, today, 20 terrorists -- including three suicide bombers -- were killed. Destroyed hideouts of terrorists include their ammo and ration dumps," Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR) said in a statement late Wednesday.

On Wednesday, military officials claimed at least 35 militants were killed in air blitz and gunfights in North and South Waziristan agencies.

Though Waziristan region has been largely purged of terrorists, targeted air strikes and sporadic clashes continue in the area which was once the stronghold of homegrown militants and their foreign cohorts.

The main image here is clearly incompatible with the rest of the article. For instance, the aircraft in the picture is an F-15 Strike Eagle which is not in PAF's inventory. Second, the aircraft is deploying flare/chaff countermeasures and not dropping bombs.
