ISLAMABAD:

There is no substitute for books. Reading plays a crucial role in any society, but there is no getting around the fact that the same is missing, or at least declining, in our society.

To inculcate and promote a culture of reading and give book lovers a platform to exchange ideas and meet intellectuals, the National Book Foundation (NBF) launched a five-day festival at the Pak China Friendship Centre on Wednesday. The annual event attracts thousands of book enthusiasts.

NBF Managing Director Dr Inamul Haq Javeid spoke about the achievements of the National Book Programme and thanked all guests and sponsors who made the festival possible.

Global System of Integrated Studies (GSIS) Principal Quratulain Rizvi told The Express Tribune the festival was an enlightening learning platform for her students. “It inspires them to read, which is one of the reasons GSIS has always been a part of it since its inception.

The event has various activities that include book reading clubs, workshops, stalls, exhibitions, lucky draws, photo booths and various other sessions.
