The police have apprehended alleged militant Abdul Manan alias Zameer Marfani, said to be the accomplice of previously arrested suspects Khalil Brohi and Ghulam Rasool Brohi. They are implicated in the Karbala Maula Imambargah blast in Shikarpur of January 30, which claimed over 60 lives and left dozens more injured.
According to Shikarpur SSP Saqib Ismail Memon, Marfani had also admitted to helping Khalil and Ghulam in carrying out an attack on the convoy of Saeen Hussain Shah Kambar Waro near Jacobabad in 2013. Hussain was injured along with three others, while his grandson Shafiq Shah was killed.
Memon claimed Marfani had revealed that he was following Hussain's convoy and alerted his accomplices, Khalil and Ali Sher Brohi, when it drew near a remote-controlled explosive device planted in a heap of hay by the roadside.
The suspect also confessed of being involved in the 2013 attack on the Ghazi Ghulam Shah shrine in Shikarpur, which claimed four lives, including that of shrine caretaker Saeen Hajan Shah Mari Waro. He said that he tipped off his accomplices about the caretaker's presence in the shrine.
Marfani further said that he threw away explosive material in a pond after hearing about the arrests of Khalil and Ghulam.
Sources claimed that Marfani was arrested a few days ago but his arrest was only declared on Monday. Meanwhile, SSP Memon said that Khalil and Ghulam had informed the police about Marfani during interrogation, leading to his arrest.
