ISLAMABAD: Sadruddin Hashwani’s services to promoting bilateral ties between Pakistan and Belgium were recognised in a ceremony held at a local hotel on Monday night.

The chairperson of the Hashoo Group was awarded the Golden Medal of the Civil Cross First Class of the Kingdom of Belgium at a reception hosted by Ambassador of Belgium Peter Claes.

Hashwani’s role in socio-economic development of Pakistan and his support to the Belgian embassy over the past 25 years were lauded at the function.

An exclusive gathering of diplomats and senior government officials witnessed the ceremony.

Several journalists and civil society members were also present at the occasion.

In his address, Hashwani thanked the ambassador and the government of Belgium for the award.

The renowned businessman was also appointed to the rank of Knight-commander in the Order of Leopold II, the house order of the Belgian monarchy last year.

Speaking on the occasion, Claes said that almost a year ago, guests had gathered in Hashwani’s garden to celebrate the award and we are here again.

The ambassador said he felt personally honoured that his government proposed Hashwani in view of his services rendered to the Kingdom of Belgium as a distinguished recipient.

Formal speeches were followed by dinner.

In a traditional manner, friends and family members during dinner and after went to congratulate Hashwani.

“This is a great moment for him. And we are all proud to be a part of his achievements,” said a guest.
