Hand over illegal weapons within nine days or face arrest: DG Rangers Sindh

DG Rangers urges submission of illegal weapons to nearest Rangers post by April 20

KARACHI: Director General (DG) Rangers Sindh Major General Bilal Akbar gave a nine-day window to residents of Karachi to surrender their illegal weapons or face arrest.

In a bid to curb target killings and crimes in the city, DG Rangers urged the citizens of Karachi to submit their illegal weapons at the nearest Rangers post by April 30, warning that failure to do so will result in arrest and individuals will be dealt with severely.

The Rangers official observed in most cases of target killings in Karachi, illegal weapons were recovered. Moreover, in the past, some arms dealers were issuing fake licenses to transport illegal weapons for target killings.

Keeping illegal arms or using fake arms license constitute offences under Section 23-1-A of Sindh Arms Ordnance 2013 and the maximum punishment for the offence is 14-year imprisonment.

DG Rangers warned individuals in possession and retainers of illegal weapons will be dealt as collaborators and associates of target killers and will be booked under the Anti Terrorism Act.

Just yesterday, in its latest effort to make Karachi a crime-free city, Sindh Rangers requested the citizens to keep their original identification cards with them at all times.

In a statement issued by the Rangers spokesperson urging the citizens to keep their National Identity Card (NIC) with them all the time, the paramilitary force said copies of NIC will not be acceptable and the individual in question will be taken into custody till his/her identity is proven.
