PESHAWAR:

In a bid to ensure prisoners on probation are properly re-assimilated into society, a forum suggested steps be taken to allow the K-P Home and Tribal Affairs department to contact universities for volunteers to monitor such individuals.

The suggestion came at a meeting of the Government Citizens Forum (GCF), said a press release issued on Monday. Additional secretary home Attaur Rahman explained the responsibilities of probation officers for the disposal of disputes, addressing problems of prisoners and maintaining law and order. Others shared there was a shortage of manpower.

UET Vice Chancellor and other universities’ officials told the participants students could help fill the shortage. They said students of almost all departments at universities are bound to work as volunteers and could play a pivotal role in rehabilitating prisoners on probation.
