Former Balochistan Assembly speaker Aslam Bhootani is pushing for scrapping the coal-fired power plant project in Gadani, Lasbela district, citing possible risks to environment and human life as reasons. The project has been proposed by the Hub Power Company (Hubco).

Saying coal emissions are detrimental to human life, Bhootani has decided to approach the judiciary if the Pakistani and Chinese governments don’t halt the project immediately.

“The project must not be initiated considering its hazardous impact on environment and human life, particularly in Sindh and Balochistan,” said Bhootani, who was elected an MPA from Lasbela multiple times.

Raising serious objections on the project, the former speaker has written to Hubco’s CEO for the immediate closure of the power plant project and advised using alternative energy resources instead.
