During the 65th meeting of the Board of Governors (BoG) of IIU on Monday which was held at the Faisal Mosque campus, a committee was constituted to probe into the alleged irregularities.
The probe comes after a former professor and chairmen of the departments of Environmental Science, Biotechnology and Bioinformatics wrote a letter that contained allegations against the President of Islamic University, Anwar Hussain Siddiqui of damaging the university exchequer by drawing unlawful allowances and enhanced salary.
Sources inside the university said the committee that will probe the accusations comprises of Justice Shazado Shaikh of Federal Shariat Court, Professor Dr Qasim Jan, former vice chancellor of Peshawar University and Quaid-i-Azam University, currently serving as secretary general of Pakistan Academy of Sciences and Dr Rafique Ahmad, chairman Nazaria Pakistan Foundation.
A spokesperson of IIU in a statement claimed that the salary of the president had been raised with the approval of the BoD, adding that there is a proper internal and external audit system in the university.
It was also learnt that the BoG did not consider the recommendation of the outgoing president on giving extension in the service of Parveen Qaqdir Agha, vice president (Administration and Finance).
