The smoking gun: Panic erupts after gunfire heard near school

LAHORE:
Two armed men shot the guard of an educational institute on Friday in Bahar Colony, Liaquatabad area, after he tried to prevent them from taking away a motorcycle.

Amir, a guard at St Franciscan Boys High School in the area, had tried to intercept the robbers after they snatched a motorcycle from 19-year-old Lucky.

Bystanders said that classes were in progress at the three schools in the church’s vicinity when the incident took place.

The schools were closed shortly afterwards.



Eyewitness Patras Masih told The Express Tribune that the suspects had shot the guard after he had tried to intercept them.


Rescue 1122 officials said that he had been taken to a hospital. Parents rushed to the schools to collect their children after hearing the sound of gunfire.

Mariam Ali, the mother of a grade 3 student, said she had rushed to St Franciscan Boys High School after hearing the sound of gunfire.

She said she had left her house praying that nothing untoward had taken place. Class 3 student Sharon David said the sound of gunfire had left him petrified.

He said he had thought that terrorists had attacked the school.

A DGPR official said that Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif had taken notice of the incident and asked Police Inspector General Mushtaq Ahmad Sukhera to submit a report on this account in 48 hours.
