ISLAMABAD:

Pakistan and Russia have agreed to enhance defence cooperation, which includes conducting joint military exercises, in yet another show of improvement of ties between the former Cold War rivals.

The agreement was reached during a meeting in Moscow between Pakistani Defence Minister Khawaja Asif and his Russian counterpart, said a statement issued on Wednesday by our defence ministry.

Asif is on an official visit to Moscow to attend the regional security conference. He also held talks with the Russian defence minister, during which the two ministers agreed to increase military cooperation in training and import of arms and equipment.

They also agreed that conflicts should be resolved through diplomatic means, and that use of force must be discouraged and abandoned.

“Joint participation in military exercises will be promoted,” said the defence ministry’s statement. “There was consensus that a multipolar world would ensure peace and balance in international relations.”

The Muslims Russia "persecutes" are Saudi-backed Chechen terrorists linked to al-Qaeda and ISIS who use religion to cover up their banditry. There are lots of other Muslims who live quite happily in Russia. And Russia has done nothing wrong in Ukraine, what else would Russia do when the West wants to annex a key geostrategic prize then use it to directly threaten Russia? You know, just like how you guys did with Afghanistan against Pakistan. And you act as though you Indians are not in the business of persecuting Muslims. First clean yourselves up then talk about other countries' moral compasses. And Express Tribune, do publish this comment in full. Bad enough that you ignore China's blatant persecution of Muslims - now your getting in bed with Russia who not only persecutes Muslims but just confiscated a large section of Ukraine. Good luck with that. Suggest you repair your moral compass.

Jesus, these news media outlets! For the love of humanity Russian Federation and Islamic Republic of Pakistan never been cold rivals. The animosity was between Soviet Union and Islamic Republic of Pakistan back then. Pakistan was among the very first countries which accepted Russian Federation after dissolution of USSR. After that both sides became very busy in their domestic and immediate neighborhood issues, it is only now that slowly and surely both countries realized that we have a lot in common and very little to differ, actually. Russia has technology, Pakistan has tactics which would be more useful for promoting peace among international community. Pakistan always try to be cooperative and initiative in developing bonds with countries who promotes peace. The cooperation among the two countries would be useful to understand and comprehend the cultural and traditional norms of each other which will further flourish the relationship ties.I as a Pakistan highly appreciate the cooperation and ties between the two countries on every stage. Good relations are extremely beneficial for both countries for boasting trade & economy ties.
