Yemen conflict will have serious implications for regional security: Army chief

General Raheel Sharif says intelligence-based operations must be intensified to unearth terrorist hideouts

RAWALPINDI: Chief of Army Staff General Raheel Sharif has emphasised the need to concentrate on combatting terrorism by implementing the National Action Plan against terrorism in its true letter and spirit for visible results.

According to DG ISPR Major-General Asim Bajwa, the army chief presided over the 181st Corps Commander’s Conference at the General Headquarters on Friday.



He said intelligence based operations (IBOs) must be intensified to unearth terrorist hideouts, apprehend them and their abettors from urban centres.

The army chief directed commanders to maintain focus on ending terrorism in the country, and expressed satisfaction over the progress of the continuing military offensive in the tribal belt, Operation Zarb-e-Azb.

Regarding the situation in Yemen, the meeting said continuation of the conflict would have serious implications for regional security.
