PESHAWAR:

The PHC ordered the federal ministry of interior to remove the name of a resident of Mardan district from the ECL on Thursday.

A two-member bench comprising Chief Justice Mazhar Alam Miankhel and Justice Qalandar Ali Khan was hearing the petition of Muhammad Imad who was barred by the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) from leaving the country for Dubai in 2013.

Counsel of the petitioner Daris Khan told the court his client was arrested by security forces a few years ago, who suspected him of having links with anti-state elements. He was subsequently released after a thorough investigation found him innocent, Khan added.

The counsel said Imad’s name was placed on the ECL and despite two years going by and no evidence brought against him he is still prohibited from travelling abroad.

Upon hearing the arguments, the court ordered the removal of Imad’s name from the ECL.
