KARACHI: Pakistan’s middle-order batsman Fawad Alam, who was not given a chance to showcase his skills in the 2015 World Cup, addressed a press conference on Wednesday saying that the new-face national team supports the new ODI captain Azhar Ali.

“We will try to perform as good as we can in the series against Bangladesh,” said Fawad.

“All the players support the new captain. A captain cannot do anything without players’ help and we are here to support him completely.

“It is like the whole team will make a comeback in the Bangladesh series and this is a prime opportunity for veterans such as Younus (Khan) and youngsters to perform.”

He also talked about his preparation for the series starting from April 17.

“I have been focusing hard on my fitness after I was left out of the team for the World Cup and I am in a good shape for the upcoming series.”

While commenting on Pakistan’s opening options he said, “It is difficult to open with a middle-order batsman so we would be going with proper openers.”

It is good to hear that the team is standing behind its newly appointed captain. It is simply imperative for the team to play as a unit and not let any differences take over.

The new captain does not need your reassurances. Just get on with it and do your job. You need to first assure your own place in the team.Recommend

He should be a regular member of the team. At least he can rotate the strike! You need more middle order batsmen like Alam. Whats the point of hitting a six and getting out the next bowl? Yes I am pointing towards Afridi, Akmal and Shehzad.
Alam can also bowl and he is a brilliant fielder.Recommend
