Parliamentary decorum

Letter April 07, 2015
Instead of discussing the Yemen situation, we observed the behaviour of an unruly mob shouting insults at PTI MNAs

ISLAMABAD: The joint session of parliament was held to debate the very serious and sensitive geopolitical issue of whether or not to provide military support to Saudi Arabia in the conflict in Yemen. Instead, we observed the behaviour of an unruly mob shouting insults at the members of the PTI. Even the speaker, Ayaz Sadiq, could not bring order.

It was embarrassing to watch this supposed display of democracy in action. Has anyone wondered why serious issues facing Pakistan never make it to the floor of parliament for debate? It was disgusting to watch the latest proceedings. More amazing was to watch the evening talk show hosts discussing the legality of the PTI members being present in the assembly instead of focusing on the Yemen question.
