The Rawalpindi City Police Officer (CPO) Israr Ahmed Khan Abbasi has handed down departmental punishment including dismissal from service to 16 police officials on charges of misuse of power, dereliction of duty and corruption.



According to Rawalpindi police spokesperson Raja Asif Nawaz, those who were dismissed from service included assistant sub-inspector (ASI) Ashfaq Ahmed and constable Gulfraz Ahmed.


Sub-inspector (SI) Inayat Ali and SI Manzoor Ahmed were demoted and made ASI while ASI Nasar Hayat and Pervaiz Baig were demoted and made head constables.


SI Dost Ali, Abdul Hameed and Nisar Ahmed were penalised with reduction in pay by two stages. Constable Qamar Zaman, Safeer Ahmed and Zafar Iqbal were also awarded the same punishment.


Similarly, SI Zafar Iqbal, Mazhar Akram and head constable Akhtar Mahmood were awarded punishment of forfeiture of two-year service and constable Asim Zaib faced forfeiture of one year service.


The spokesman said the police officials, who were punished, were found guilty of various charges including irresponsible attitude, negligence and absence from duty.
