Cantt police SHO Minhaj Sikandar Baloch has registered an FIR against unidentified assailants over the killing of DSP Bahawal Khan late Friday night.


DSP Khan and his friend Haroon were gunned down near a hospital as they were commuting on a motorcycle. A police official told The Express Tribune two unidentified men on a motorbike opened fire at the DSP and his friend, killing them both on the spot. Their bodies were later taken to District Headquarters and Teaching Hospital, DI Khan.


Eye-witnesses said one of the two men on the motorbike opened fire, as a result of which both Khan and Haroon fell to the ground. The gunman then shot them again, this time getting off the bike and moving closer. Both the assailants escaped before the DIG, DPO and other police officials could reach the site and cordon off the area.


SHO Baloch said the case has been filed under sections 302 and 120B of the Pakistan Penal Code and Section 7 of the Anti-Terrorism Act.


Funeral prayers of the DSP were held at Police Lines in DI Khan, after which his body was taken to his hometown of Rohilla village for burial.
