Provincial Apex Committee: Geo-tagging of seminaries complete, meeting informed

Shahbaz says topics on tolerance are being included in the curricula.

Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif said on Friday that steps taken under the National Action Plan against terrorism were yielding positive results.


He was chairing a meeting of the Provincial Apex Committee. Sharif said information technology was being employed to curb terrorism. The chief minister said topics on tolerance, brotherhood and restraint were being included in the curricula of educational institutions and religious seminaries. Sharif said it had been decided to organise essay and speech writing contests province-wide in this regard. He said the entire nation was united against terrorism, sectarianism and religious extremism. Sharif said the struggle against these scourges would take place at every front. He said Pakistan Army was the most able and disciplined force in the world.

Sharif said citizens, military personnel and officials from the law enforcement agencies had rendered great sacrifices in the war against terrorism. He said all segments of society ought to play their role in the war against terrorism. Sharif said anti-state elements and their facilitators would be eliminated. He said it was incumbent on every citizen to make the nation secure and peaceful. Sharif said there was no place for terrorists in the national fold.

Those present at the meeting were informed that geo-tagging of religious seminaries across the Punjab had been completed under the NAP. Initiatives taken under the plan were also reviewed on the occasion. Those present on the occasion expressed satisfaction over the measures taken under the plan and resolved to eliminate terrorism, sectarianism and religious extremism.

Corps Commander Lt Gen Naveed Zaman, Home Minister Shuja Khanzada, Rangers Director General Maj Gen Umer Farooq Burki and 10th Division General Officer Commanding Maj Gen Amir Abbasi were also present on the occasion.

CM chairs Healthcare Commission meeting

Sharif said the establishment of the Healthcare Commission was a historic step with regard to the provision of modern healthcare to the people.

He was speaking at a meeting of the Healthcare Commission. Sharif said the government had been taking steps on priority basis to upgrade the health sector and provide quality healthcare to the people. He said billions of rupees had been spent on revamping public health facilities.

The chief minister said a strategy had been adopted to establish new hospitals and promote medical education across the province. He said the government had been striving to provide citizens with modern healthcare as serving the ill was an act of worship. Sharif said a roadmap for the healthcare commission should be formulated on the lines of the Punjab Education Reforms Roadmap and the Punjab Health Reforms Roadmap.

He said all medical facilities in the province should be geo-tagged to collate authentic information. The chief minister said a plan should be formulated to curb quackery. He directed the health secretary and officials of the Healthcare Commission to submit final recommendations on the commission’s targets in 14 days.

Muhammad Ajmal Khan of the commission briefed those present on the occasion. Healthcare Commission Chairperson Justice (r) Aamir Raza Khan spoke about the commission’s efficiency.

Finance Minister Mujtaba Shujaur Rehman, Adviser to Chief Minister on Health Khwaja Salman Rafique former law minister Rana Sanaullah and Provincial Assembly Members Khwaja Imran Nazir, Nadia Aziz, Ayesha Ghaus Pasha and Qazi Adnan Fareed were also present at the meeting.
