‘Denying’ meeting: Rangers DG, prisons IG sent notices

Judges were told that the Rangers and prison authorities were not allowing the families to meet their relatives

The Sindh High Court (SHC) directed on Thursday the Rangers DG and the prisons IG to file reports by April 7 on the allegations that they are denying meetings to the families of over 60 suspects detained from the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) headquarters, Nine Zero, on March 11. A division bench, headed by Justice Naimatullah Phulpoto, was hearing a petition filed by the families of the suspected detainees during the raid. They had claimed the Rangers have obtained remand of their loved ones for 90 days and have kept them in the Karachi prison. The judges were told that the Rangers and prison authorities were not allowing the families to meet their relatives, which was a violation of the Constitution.
